If you’re one of the millions that’s affected by dry eyes or dry eye syndrome, we encourage you to come visit your eye doctor to experience our revolutionary dry eye treatment known as LipiFlow.

What Is LipiFlow?

LipiFlow is a cutting-edge, in-office dry eye treatment that can reduce dry eye syndrome and correct the balance of oils in the eye’s tear film. It’s a form of warm compress and massage therapy as it applies controlled heat to the inner eyelid while also using mild, intermittent pressure. This pressure will help open up and clear the blocked glands, allowing the natural production of oils to resume. This will help clear up the dryness of the eye and also alleviate any symptoms that are associated with dry eye syndrome.

How It Works

LipiFlow applies controlled heat and pressure to the eye by using a disposable eyepiece. This eyepiece is inserted under your upper and lower eyelid. The eyepiece is shaped so that it won’t make contact with your cornea or the front surface of your eye. When activated, the eyepiece will produce intermittent gentle pressure to the outer eyelid that will allow the oils, or lipids, to resume their natural flow. This procedure can be used on one eye or both eyes simultaneously.

What Are the Benefits of LipiFlow?

There are plenty of reasons why you should consider using LipiFlow if you have dry eyes or dry eye syndrome. Here are just a few of them:

  • It’s Simple – The LipiFlow procedure is performed in our office and it only takes 12 minutes. It can even be performed on the same day as your eye exam.

  • It’s Safe – The LipiFlow technology has over 25 years of research behind it, leading to an incredibly safe dry eye treatment. It’s virtually painless and your Birmingham, AL eye doctor will take great care to ensure that your cornea won’t be overheated or subjected to too much pressure.

  • It’s Effective – About three-quarters of patients who try LipiFlow experience significant improvement with their dry eyes within four weeks. It’s a very effective way to reduce the daily discomfort that a person with dry eyes goes through.
