From their extensive education to their years of experience providing eye care to those in and around Birmingham, they’ve developed into the wonderful eye doctors that they are today. Michael Callahan, MD

Patients know that when they’re in need of an ophthalmologist, they’ll receive only the highest quality care and sincere dedication to healing when visiting Dr. Michael Callahan.


A Birmingham native, Dr. Callahan received his medical degree at UAB. In private practice since 1976, he specializes as a general ophthalmologist and performs surgery of the eyes with emphasis on cataracts, medical and cosmetic eyelid surgery, and botox treatment of wrinkles in the forehead and facial area.


Dr. Callahan is a professor of Ophthalmology at UAB and the UAB Callahan Eye Hospital. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.


He serves on the staff at UAB Callahan Eye Hospital and is President of the International Retina Research Foundation.


Dr. Callahan is married and has five children.

Tim Thompson, OD

Dr. Tim Thompson, OD provides complete and comprehensive eye care with a personal approach by giving time and guidance. Raised in Perry, Georgia, “Dr. Tim” obtained his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Biology from UAB in 1986 and his Doctorate of Optometry degree from UAB in 1991. He is involved with several mission opportunities here in the states and overseas. He enjoys outdoor activities and sports. He is married and has two children. ​


Amie Marsh, OD

Dr. Amie Marsh

Dr. Amie Marsh brings great depth to our team, providing personalized eye care to the community of Birmingham. Dr. Marsh has experience treating ocular disease, including diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and corneal disease. She has been trained extensively by specialists in retina, oculoplastics, cornea, pediatrics, and general ophthalmology.


Dr. Marsh received her undergraduate degree with Magna Cum Laude honors from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2010, and in 2012, received her Master’s degree in Vision Science.  She continued on to achieve her doctorate of optometry from UAB School of Optometry in 2015.  The following year, Dr. Marsh completed her Ocular Disease and Family Practice residency at the Oklahoma College of Optometry.  She recently was awarded her fellowship in optometry from the American Academy of Optometry.  Dr. Marsh has been married for 12 years and lives in Lincoln, AL with her husband, Jamie.  She enjoys fishing and learning how to ride dirt bikes.
